Portrait Tips

Pocket Full Of Poses

While the photographer will have some poses of their own it’s always a good idea to have a look at different poses in magazines, websites etc. Save the ones you like to show the photographer and practice the poses. If both you and the photographer visualise the same poses it makes it much easier making everybody happy.

Set The Mood.

Do you want your portraits to have a formal feel or would you prefer a more casual result? Try to decide which will better represent you.

What To Wear For Your Portrait Session?

Wardrobe is a big factor in the attractiveness of your portraits. When choosing clothing, keep these few tips in mind:

•If the studio backdrop is used please avoid wearing white clothing as it’s back-lit pure white, so you may vanish.

•If the shot contains family members it’s well advised to be sure that all family members are dressed in a similar style whether it formal, casual, dressy etc.

•Try to avoid large patterns and bright, flashy clothing. If you're wondering what colours are best for a family portrait, solid colours photograph best, allowing the focus to be on the people and not on their outfits.

•With young children, look them over from head to toe. A baby or toddler is likely to be posing on someone's lap, so their entire outfit will be in the picture. Choose clean shoes in good condition or for casual portraits, consider photographing the youngest family members barefoot.

The session usually lasts between 1 - 1.5 hours.
